Tee Keat: A vote for DAP is a vote for PAS and PKR

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA vice-president Datuk Ong Tee Keat has reminded the Chinese community that a vote for the DAP is equivalent to a vote for PAS and PKR.

He said if the DAP considered a vote for the MCA as a vote for Umno, the same logic should also apply to the opposition party.

He said the opposition only worked together during elections, and did not have a common goal and common platform.

"Maybe they only have a common enemy, the Barisan Nasional, and they want to fight for more seats," he told a press conference in Wisma MCA here yesterday.

"But they cannot give the rakyat a feasible alternative."

He said the MCA and Umno had been working together -- first in the Alliance, and now in the Barisan -- and each party had its own role to play.

Ong said the opposition was trying to confuse the people and had even changed their slogans.

He also pointed to PAS projecting a new image and the DAP having no intention to conceal its collaboration with PAS.

"But I must forewarn that as far as PAS and DAP are concerned, their collaboration will only lead to disaster because we cannot see any common platform in their collaboration," he said.

Asked if the MCA finds this general election more challenging, Ong said every election was a challenge for every party.

He said the Chinese community should not punish the MCA or vent their frustration by voting for the opposition.

He said the Chinese and Indian communities would lose their representation in the Cabinet if they voted against the MCA or MIC.

"There's harmony in the country because the Barisan Government practises power-sharing. And if this power-sharing is disrupted, it will be a loss for everyone," he said.
