Historian: Protest was an unwise move

KUALA LUMPUR: The street protest staged by the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) on Nov 25 can trigger racial tension in the country, said a prominent academician and historian.
Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Khoo Kay Kim said the unlawful rally was an unwise move that could lead to misunderstanding among Malaysia's plural society and culminate in racial tension.
"Firstly, they must determine who is directly responsible for the welfare and well being of Indians in this country. They should try to identify and resolve the Indian community's problems and grievances among themselves," he said yesterday.
Khoo said Hindraf should furnish solid evidence to substantiate their accusations that the Indians were being marginalised.
"Their accusations are too vague and can create racial misunderstanding. This does not have a positive impact," he said. — Bernama
