Kayveas To Be 'Hauled Up', Again
PUTRAJAYA: People's Progressive Party (PPP) president Datuk M. Kayveas will be asked to explain his statement that the protest organised by the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) on Nov 25 was not against the government but MIC.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Kayveas, who is also Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's department, would be asked to shed light on his remarks published in an English daily, Monday.
"That is Kayveas' view reported in the newspaper. I'll ask for an explanation from him," Najib told reporters after opening the Felda convention and presenting Felda Youth Award here today.
The PPP leader has been at the centre of several controversies, especially those involving the Indian community—more often than not accusing the MIC of not doing enough for Indians in the country.
"Has the government done enough for the Indian community? Some would say yes while some would say no. But MIC is answerable to both the groups," Kayveas was quoted as saying in the news report.
To another question, Najib said the anger of Malays in the country following the Hindraf illegal rally was under control, noting that they were satisfied with measures taken by the government to deal with the situation.
"We don't have to dance to Hindraf's tune...Who are they? They don't represent the Indian Malaysian community.
"If they go against the law, we'll definitely take action. In fact, we've already started taking action," he added.
Meanwhile, Felda liaison director Datuk Dzulkifli Abdul Wahab handed to Najib a memorandum signed by 2,800 Felda youths expressing support for the government over its handling of the Hindraf issue. — BERNAMA
